The SUBWAY® Bedrace for Bridging is outrageous fun for a great cause! The money raised from this event helps to furnish homes with hope. All donations directly benefit Bridging and make a life-changing impact on Twin Cities area families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. We were happy to attend the 2018 Bedrace and support the cause.
We partner to host an annual urban canoe journey with other organizations that share our values in strengthening communities, healthy living and social responsibility. (in partnership with the YMCA, Wilderness Inquiry, the National Park Service, Mississippi Park Connection, the National Parks Conservation Association, and the Courtyard Marriott Downtown.) Youth participants connect to this opportunity through YMCA Youth Intervention Services, which supports youth facing barriers due to challenges like involvement in the foster care system, homelessness or involvement in the juvenile justice system. The group paddles down the Mississippi River with a stop at North Mississippi Regional Park for a service learning project focused on sustainability.
“Providing meaningful outdoor experiences for young people is a key tenant of the YMCA’s mission,” said Glen Gunderson, president and CEO of the YMCA. “The canoe trip held by Youth Intervention Services and our partners gives more youth in our community the opportunity to participate in enriching outdoor activities and engage in environmental education.”
All of Heartland’s communities are committed to being good stewards of this Earth by engaging in water and energy conservation and waste recycling programs. At least 20% of all energy comes from renewable resources, with goals to expand this as well as reduce overall consumption.
